who is she?

what’s the why?

It has been instilled in me that it all has to come back to the why. I have these written on a post-it note on my computer to remind myself why I do what I do:

  1. To live a beautiful and abundant life

  2. To create meaningful impact to the tech sector

  3. To love and be loved wholeheartedly

outside of tech

Music.

I have an interesting and less than popular taste in music. You will find me singing in the car to any of the following: The Shins, Hazel English, Corbin, Taylor Swift, Laurel, Toro y moi, and the Rushmore Soundtrack.

You can find my apple playlists here (categorised by year).

TV.

I have a short attention span, so movies are usually out of the question. I rewatch the same TV shows and have an annual cycle of: The OA, Mad Men, Downton Abbey, Sex and the City, Godless, and The Office. Added a new show to the mix - currently tapping into my bonnie lass roots with Outlander.

Food + wine.

I have been cooking since age 6. I usually eat the same thing every day to save time/money, but when I cook - oh boy, do I go all out. My favourite meal I make at present is a courgette, pea and orecchiette soup. And you will also always find me with a glass of pinot gris in hand.

Art.

My biggest passion in life. I have a love for mid-century modern design and modern art. I will never be able to pinpoint my favourite movement or artist, but I love artists who can play with light, colour, and composition. If I had to, my current top 3 favourite artists would be Henri Matisse, David Hockney, and Uta Barth.

Meg Ryan.

My favourite movies all star Meg Ryan. When Harry Met Sally, You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle. They are part of my identity at this point.

Classics.

I am a Hellenist - if you ask me anything about Ancient Rome, I will draw a blank. Homer or greek vases? Don’t bother to ask, because you’ll be stuck with me talking your ear off for an hour.

In an attempt to lessen my fears of my 30’s, I made a new years resolution to rediscover the things that make me, me.

I’ve called this exploration, ‘the mind of ali’. My intention with this exercise is to remind myself of all the things I love and the things that have made an impact on me. Part of this exercise is to take photos of things I see throughout the day.

Here are the very few that have made the cut.
